The Ludwig-Thoma-Gymnasium Prien am Chiemsee (LTG) is located in Prien am Chiemsee in the Rosenheim district . It is named after the local poet Ludwig Thoma , who spent part of his childhood and youth in one of the school buildings (then a hotel).

history

In March 1949, on the initiative of Josef Donaubauer from Gstadt , many interested families from northern Chiemgau came together to give their children a higher education without an unreasonably long way to school. On August 25, 1949, the " Parents' Association Prien Realschule " was founded and established as a registered association on September 9, 1949 .

1949–1953: Private secondary school

In two rented rooms of an inn in Sankt Salvator , lessons began on November 14, 1949 with 18 girls and 31 boys in two classes.

The school fees was in the early years 15.- DM per month with the possibility of a reduction in cases of hardship. Due to the large catchment area, the introduction of a private school bus was already being discussed.

In the second school year 1950/51 a third class was accepted and another room was rented in St. Salvator. Another class was added in each of the school years 1951/52 and 1952/53, and the restaurant in St. Salvator was no longer able to accommodate the school despite the expansion, so that the Prien market decided on April 14, 1953 to buy the former Hotel Kampenwand on Seestrasse in Prien and rent it to the school's sponsoring association.

1953–1955 Private Ludwig-Thoma-Realschule

Since the Bavarian homeland poet Ludwig Thoma had spent his youth in the new school building , the school was renamed " Private Ludwig-Thoma-Realschule ".

This moved the school to a central, easy-to-reach location and enjoyed further popularity. In the school year 1953/54 there were already 227 students with 8 full-time and 10 part-time teachers in the then 6-stage school, at the same time 20 boarding places were available for the first time for students with disproportionately long journeys.

Due to the steady increase in the number of students - the Ludwig-Thoma-Gymnasium was still the only higher education institution in a very large catchment area - the planning of a large, modern school building began as early as 1954 and the first with the natural science wing in 1954/55 Construction phase started. Shortly before the opening of the wing on October 28, 1955, the school was officially upgraded to the Oberrealschule and thus to a school with 9 grade levels.

1955–1960 Private Ludwig-Thoma-Oberrealschule

On July 1, 1956, the school received state recognition and thus permission to take the Abitur examination . On July 18, 1957, the first year of high school graduates with 1 female and 5 pupils could be dismissed.

In the 1958/59 school year, 365 pupils were already enrolled in 13 classes (four grades were divided into two classes); the proportion of girls was around 30%. 16 full-time and 12 part-time teachers worked at the school, plus staff to look after the 51 boarding school students.

1960–1965 Ludwig-Thoma-Oberrealschule

On October 1, 1960, the school was nationalized . After an agreement with the landowner, the second construction phase could be built in 1961/61 to teach the meanwhile 374 students in 15 classes, the number of teachers was 28 plus two educators and 9 other home workers.

In the school year 1964/65 a branch with English as the first foreign language was added. In 17 classes, 26 full-time and 8 part-time teachers teach 429 students.

On September 1, 1965, the school was named " Ludwig-Thoma-Gymnasium, mathematical, natural science and modern language grammar school ". 458 students in 18 classes made it necessary again to start planning the expansion of the school. In 1966/67 the third construction phase was built and inaugurated on November 11, 1967.

In 1973 the new natural science wing expanded the school building with lecture hall-like rooms for physics, biology and chemistry as well as the collections of these subjects.

Since 2006 the now 6 school buildings have been refurbished and renovated step by step, in 2006 first the former Hotel Kampenwand, in 2017 the two construction phases 2 and 3. The original construction phase one from the years 1954/55 will be demolished in 2018 [obsolete] and be replaced by a newly planned wing in order to meet today's demands on the school.
