Ludwig Ahlmann

Ludwig Ahlmann (born December 4, 1859 in Kiel ; † July 27, 1942 there ) was a German banker and politician .

Life

Ludwig Ahlmann was born as the son of the Kiel banker Wilhelm Ahlmann . He attended the grammar school of the Kiel School of Academics and after graduating from high school (1879) studied law at the universities of Tübingen , Berlin and Kiel . In 1880 he became a member of the Corps Suevia in Tübingen . In 1882 he passed the trainee exam and in 1889 the assessor exam. Also in 1889 he was awarded a Dr. jur. obtained his doctorate and joined his father's bank Wilh as a partner in the same year . Ahlmann in Kiel. He was a member of the Kiel Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Kiel Stock Exchange.

As a politician he was a member of the city council from 1898 to 1919, and from 1900 to early 1919 as its head. From 1902 until its dissolution, he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Provincial Parliament . For many years he was a member of the Provincial Committee and at times also a deputy member of the Prussian State Council .

As a local researcher, Ahlmann was chairman of the Society for Schleswig-Holstein History from 1921 to 1931 and sponsor of the Historic State Hall for Schleswig-Holstein. From 1908 to 1920 he was chairman of the Society for Kiel City History. His personal research dealt with the history of the city of Kiel and the Christian Albrechts University. Due to his blindness, his son Wilhelm Ahlmann became a silent partner in the bank. His son-in-law Karl Eltze (see there) continued to run the bank on behalf of the family.
