Ludwig Bear (musician)

Ludwig Bär , also Ludwig Baer , (born November 24, 1844 in Frankfurt am Main , † December 23, 1900 in Darmstadt ) was a German violinist , opera singer , concertmaster and vocal teacher .

Life

Bär devoted himself to music at an early age, became a pupil of Ferdinand David's , first gained great recognition as a violinist and achieved a certain importance as an instrumentalist. After he had worked as concertmaster of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, among other things , he made the decision to train his voice, which was generally described as beautiful, and to take the stage. He took lessons from the singing master Johann Reß in Prague, but after he had already tried his hand at Augsburg (teacher: Johann Michael Schwingstein ), he went to Berlin to complete his studies. He was then committed to Rotterdam, then worked for three years at the Leipzig City Theater and in 1879 joined the Darmstädter Hoftheater association, where he made his debut as Faust on March 9 of that year . He worked on this stage until 1896 and then retired. In recognition of his artistic merits, he was appointed great ducal chamber singer in 1889 . Bär, who excelled especially in Wagner roles, occupied himself with the training of talented talents after leaving the stage. He died in Darmstadt on December 23, 1900.

His granddaughter is the mezzo-soprano Ada Baer (* 1918).
