Ludwig Hölscher

Karl Georg Ludwig Hölscher (born October 16, 1814 in Herford ; † April 4, 1902 there ) was a German teacher, historian and philologist.

Life

Hölscher, a son of Herford City Secretary Deus Friedrich Christlieb Lebrecht Hölscher (1785–1871), graduated from the Friedrichs-Gymnasium Herford in 1832 and then studied Protestant theology at the University of Bonn . In 1834 he switched to the study of philology at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin , where he in 1837 due to the dissertation De Lysiae oratoris vita et dictione to Dr. phil. received his doctorate. After his probationary year at the Herford grammar school in 1838/39, he became a teacher at the higher middle school (later secondary school) in Siegen . In 1843 he returned to the grammar school in his hometown, where he taught until his retirement in 1883 and served as vice principal.

In 1860 Hölscher was appointed professor. In 1883 he received the Red Eagle Order, fourth class, and in 1887 the Royal Crown Order, third class.

Hölscher wrote several school programs and other writings, initially mainly philological, later mostly historical studies; including a number of articles for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie .
