Ludwig Hofmann (born January 7, 1945 ) is a former German football player. For BSG Motor Steinach he played from 1964 to 1965 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

The company sports association (BSG) Motor Steinach nominated the 18-year-old midfielder Ludwig Hofmann as their youngest player for their first league season in 1963/64. Hofmann was used in three league games in the second half of the season. In 1964/65 he was already a regular player with 25 appearances in 26 league games and was mainly used as a defender. After this season the Steinacher had to relegate from the league again. In the GDR league season 1965/66 Hofmann initially played nine point games for Motor Steinach. In November 1965 he had to do an 18-month military service in the National People's Army , but was able to continue playing football at the GDR League Representation of the Army Sports Association (ASG) Vorwärts Meiningen . He was used in 17 GDR league games for the rest of the season. After a further 24 point games for Vorwärts Meiningen, Hofmann was released from the army in April 1967 and returned to Motor Steinach. There he completed three more point games in the GDR league, so that in 1966/67 he had contested 27 out of a total of 30 games played. In the following two seasons he was again a regular in Steinach, he was only missing in four point games. With the beginning of the 1969/70 season he voluntarily returned to the ASG Vorwärtsfahrten. For five seasons he was there as a regular player. He was used 115 times in 126 GDR league games and also developed into a successful goal scorer with 37 goals. At the beginning of the 1974/75 season, the Meiningen army footballers were assigned to ASG Vorwärts Plauen , which took over the league space. Hofmann maintained his regular place for two seasons and even became the Plauen's top scorer in the 1974/75 season. At the age of 31, he tackled his last season in higher-class football in 1976/77. He was only used in six GDR league games. After that he had a record of 28 league games (0 goals) and 273 GDR league games (68 goals).
