Ludwig Huber (pedagogue)

Ludwig Huber (born April 24, 1937 in Bielefeld ; † May 11, 2019 in Bethel , Bielefeld) was a German educational scientist and professor emeritus at Bielefeld University . From 1989 to 2002 he was also the scientific director of the upper school college there .

Life

The great-grandson of the eponymous mayor of Bielefeld (1826–1905) studied classical philology and Protestant theology in Freiburg im Breisgau , Hamburg , Tübingen and London from 1956 to 1963 . After the state examination (1961) and doctorate (Tübingen 1963), he worked as a lecturer at Artemis Verlag in Zurich for the Lexicon of the Old World and as a research assistant at the University of Göttingen's educational seminar . In 1969/70 Huber was a member of the board of directors of the Federal Assistant Conference and at the same time was involved in the establishment of the Bielefeld Laboratory School and the Upper School as a member of the development committee.

In 1971 he was appointed to a professorship for university didactics at the University of Hamburg , was repeatedly Managing Director of the local Interdisciplinary Center for University Didactics (IZHD) and vice-president of the university from 1982 to 1984.

In 1989 Huber finally returned to Bielefeld University as the successor to Hartmut von Hentig as Professor of Education . At the same time, he took over the scientific management of the local upper level college, whose expansion as a reform school he continued in the following years. He brought with him a wide variety of suggestions, including from guest stays at various colleges and universities in the USA. He also established a partnership with the Novgorod State University , from which he received an honorary doctorate in 2001. In the summer of 2002, Huber retired.

Huber was editor of the magazine Das Hochschulwesen and on the advisory board of the magazine for educational science .

Huber died on May 11, 2019 in Bethel as a result of a swimming accident while on vacation in Cyprus.
