Ludwig Marxer (veterinarian)

Ludwig Marxer (born January 18, 1855 in Eschen , † October 26, 1946 in Vaduz ) was a Liechtenstein veterinarian and member of the state parliament.

biography

Marxer was born in 1855 as the son of the veterinarian Mathäus Marxer and his wife Theresia (née Öhri). He studied veterinary medicine in Munich from 1870 to 1873 . He now worked for a year as an assistant at the university and then worked for two years in Hohenems as a community veterinarian. From 1877 he worked as a veterinarian in his home town of Eschen. From 1882 to 1885 he acted as the community treasurer. From 1886 to 1902 Marxer was a member of the state parliament of the Principality of Liechtenstein . In 1888 he became a community leader elected by ash and held that post until 1898, when his family moved to he Vaduz moved out.

This had become necessary because Marxer became a provisional state veterinarian in 1898 and now moved into his office. He replaced Christoph Wanger, who had retired due to old age, and was the first state veterinarian in the history of Liechtenstein. Marxer himself was a state veterinarian from 1899 until his retirement in 1936.

Marxer was a founding member of the Historical Association for the Principality of Liechtenstein. In 1940 he was made an honorary member of the same. He was also the holder of the title "Princely Council". He was married to Maria Anna Öhri since 1884. The marriage resulted in several children, of whom a son and two daughters died early. His eighth child and second son Ludwig , who later worked as a lawyer, was also politically active.
