Ludwig Merz (electrical engineer)

Ludwig Merz (born January 25, 1905 in Pirmasens ; † March 18, 1992 in Munich ) was a German measurement and control technician and full professor and director of the Institute for Measurement and Control Engineering at the Technical University of Munich .

Life

From 1924 to 1929 he studied electrical engineering at the Technical University in Munich, where he was awarded a Dr.-Ing. PhD.

From 1945 he was head of the Wernerwerk for measurement technology at Siemens & Halske AG and from 1954 department director. In 1956 he became an adjunct professor for measuring instrument construction at the TH Munich. In the same year he became head of the measurement and control engineering department of the Kernreaktor Bau und Betriebs-GmbH in Karlsruhe, responsible for the instrumentation of the first German research reactor FR-2 and a pioneer in the field of reactor safety. In 1961 he was appointed to the newly founded chair for measurement and control technology in Munich and set up the laboratory for reactor control and plant safety in his institute. He had more than 50 publications in his field. In 1970 he retired.
