Ludwig Michael von Jeney
Ludwig Michael von Jeney (also: Jennay ; French: Louis Michel de Jeney , Hungarian: Mihály Lajos Jeney ; * 1723/1724 in Transylvania , † 1797 in Pécs ) was an engineer, cartographer, writer and general.
Life
Jeney was the son of a noble, Protestant family from Transylvania. He made his first military experience in the Turkish Wars from 1737 to 1739 as a hussar . He served from 1739 to 1754 in the Bercsényi regiment , which went into French service after the war. From 1754 to 1759 he was a map maker for the French army on the Rhine. 1759 he joined the Prussian army in 1760 and placed in the since 1744 Prussian East Frisia a free battalion , which Voluntaires d'Ostfriese . In 1761 and 1762 they were involved in some fighting; In 1763 the battalion was disbanded and Jeney retired from the Prussian army. He now went to the Austrian army for which he mapped the Balkans for the next few years. In 1787 he was appointed major general and was in command of the fortress in Old Gradiško (today: Stara Gradiška ) in Croatia .

Works
During his time in France he wrote a book on the Little War that was published in 1759 and translated into many languages. For a long time it was a standard work on partisan warfare.
