Ludwig Sager

Ludwig Sager (born January 25, 1886 in Schüttorf ; † May 24, 1970 in Neuenhaus ) was a German teacher , poet and local researcher from the county of Bentheim .

Life

The Schüttorf pupil prepared for the teaching profession in Aurich. He got his first permanent position in 1906 in Getelomoor , from 1907 to 1912 he moved to the neighboring larger Uelsen . From 1913 to 1930 Sager was a teacher at the Reformed School in Lage . In 1930 he was transferred to Neuenhaus as principal teacher (rector) . He also worked as an organist. He was a member of the board of directors of the county of Bentheim's homeland club for around three decades.

In 1909, Sager was the main founder of the Olympia Uelsen sports club.

In 1913, Sager worked as an opposition voter against the Bentheim district administrator Hermann Kriege. In 1919 he joined the DDP and acted as the founding chairman of the DDP local group in Neuenhaus and the surrounding area. He became widely known through a lawsuit he brought against a member of the nationalist Young German Order who had vilified the flag of the Weimar democracy in front of his students. The Neuenhauser justice system initially prosecuted him for insulting, in Meppen he was acquitted.

On October 9, 1949, he retired. Among other things, he wrote the text “Die Grafschaft Bentheim in der Geschichte” and published the play “The Shepherd of Neuenhaus” as well as numerous poems in High and Low German.
