Martin Ludwig Gottfried Vollrath Simonis (born December 13, 1826 in Güstrow , † February 7, 1890 in Lübz ) was a German administrative lawyer and judge in Mecklenburg. For decades he was mayor of Lübz.

Life

Ludwig Simonis was the son of the Güstrower merchant Heinrich Wilhelm Simonis (1788–1871) and his wife Louise Friederica Christiana, nee. Willert (1783-1850). His grandfather was the Güstrow merchant and city bookkeeper (treasurer?) Carl Ludwig Simonis (1753–1826).

After attending grammar school in Güstrow, he studied law at the universities of Heidelberg, Berlin and Rostock (here 1849/50).

Then Advocat Simonis worked in Rostock. In 1858 he was appointed city judge and mayor of the city of Lübz and remained so until his death in 1890.

During his 31-year tenure, he played a key role in the development of Lübz into a small industrial town. For example, the Chaussee Lübz - Goldberg (1860–1862) was built. In 1877 August Krüger founded the Mecklenburg Brewery in Lübz , in 1878 the "Lübzer Wochenblatt" appeared, the first Lübzer newspaper, in 1881 a savings bank was established and in 1882/83 the hospital was built by the Marien-Frauen-Verein. In 1885 Lübz was connected to the Mecklenburg Southern Railway and in 1889 a dairy was founded.

On September 7, 1860, Simonis married Luise Christine Wilhelmine Julie Peters (1832–1906), daughter of the Brüeler senator and doctor (Friedrich) Wilhelm (Ludwig) Peters (1794–1861). They had the children Clara (1861–1927), later married Eichbaum, and Heinrich (1866–1918), the later mayor of Goldberg (around 1900).

Ludwig Simonis, who like most of Mecklenburg's mayors had received the title of Hofrat , died in office at the age of 63.
