The Mecklenburg Brewery Lübz GmbH in Mecklenburg City Lübz is one of the largest regional breweries in northern Germany. Today it belongs to Carlsberg Deutschland GmbH . With over 100 jobs, it is the city's largest employer and market leader in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and in neighboring federal states. Around 1.5 million hectoliters of beer and mixed drinks are produced here.
history
The brewery was founded in 1877 by August Krüger and operated under different names in the following decades, Bürgerliches Brauhaus GmbH zu Lübz (from 1905), Vereinbrauerei Mecklenburger Wirte GmbH zu Lübz (from 1907) and Vereinsbrauerei Mecklenburger Wirte AG, Lübz (from 1921 ). After the Second World War, the brewery was dismantled. Expropriation was not possible because the majority shareholder with 55% of the shares was the US citizen Johannes Eisenbeiss (1913 - 1987). The operation was managed in trust. After 1969, a new brewery was built and assigned to the Schwerin beverage combine as VEB Brauerei Lübz . During the GDR era, the brewery exported to the FRG . Among other things, companies such as Spar , Aldi Süd and Penny-Markt (Wohlbauer Pils) were supplied. The Lübzer brewery owned the only can filling plant in the entire GDR .
In 1991 the Hamburger Holsten-Brauerei AG became the majority owner, and the brewing facilities were fundamentally modernized. In 1996, the Mecklenburg Brewery Lübz took over the Nordbräu beer brand (previously based in Neubrandenburg ). Since 2004 the Mecklenburg Brewery Lübz and its Hamburg mother company have been part of the Copenhagen- based Carlsberg Group.
The sold capacity in 2011 was 1.16 million hectoliters, it has increased slightly (previous year 1.13 million hectoliters). The Mecklenburg Brewery Lübz is one of the leading breweries in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is a sponsor of the football club FC Hansa Rostock . In the 2008/09 season , Lübzer was the club's shirt sponsor.
