Ludwig Wahrmund (born August 21, 1860 in Vienna , † September 10, 1932 in Prague ) was an Austrian lawyer.

Life

Ludwig Wahrmund was the son of the writer Adolf Wahrmund . He spent his school and university days in Vienna. There he did his doctorate and habilitation. He then accepted a position at the University of Chernivtsi and taught there as a lawyer until 1897. That year he was appointed to the University of Innsbruck . Due to his modernism and his pronounced anti-Catholic stance, Wahrmund came into conflict with church and later also state authorities. His political stance, especially in the areas of marriage and school policy, even resulted in parliamentary discussions and arguments. When Wahrmund published his lecture Catholic Weltanschauung and free science in 1908 , this resulted in the " Wahrmund Affair ", which led to the transfer of Wahrmund to the German University of Prague through international press reports, parliamentary debates, student unrest and the temporary cessation of teaching in Innsbruck .
