Ludwig the Younger of Anhalt-Köthen (born October 9, 1607 in Köthen ; † March 15, 1624 ibid) was an heir to the throne from Anhalt who died at the age of 16.

Life

Prince Ludwig the Elder J. was the son of Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen and his wife Amoena Amalia, a daughter of Count Arnold II of Bentheim . According to contemporary witnesses, he was gifted and gave "hope for great things in the country's political future" ( Kaspar von Teutleben ).

On the day it was founded (August 24, 1617) his father accepted him into the Fruitful Society . The prince gave the ten-year-old boy the company name of juicy and the motto “Unsatisfied not good”. As an emblem he chose "a watermelon cut open and divided into pieces" ( Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum et Nakai ) for his son . The entry of Prince Ludwig the Elder can be found in the Koethen Society Register. J. under no. 6.

Whether Ludwig d. J. took part in the meeting of the Académie des parfaits amants in Köthen on March 1, 1624 , is questionable, because he died on March 15, 1624 at the age of 16 and was buried in the Köthen St.Jakobskirche .
