Ludwig von Anhalt-Köthen (1778–1802)

Ludwig von Anhalt-Köthen (born September 25, 1778 in Köthen ; † September 16, 1802 there ) was a German prince.

He was the youngest son of Karl Georg Lebrecht (1730–1789) and his wife Luise von Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1749–1812).

Life

From 1798 he was a major in the king's regiment in the Danish service, where he received his military training. In 1801 he resigned and went into Prussian service.

After his brother Karl Wilhelm fell at Avesnes in 1793 , Ludwig was to succeed his older brother August . He was childless when Ludwig died unexpectedly. So his son Ludwig August became his heir.

Prince Ludwig married Princess Luise Karoline Theodora Amalie of Hessen-Darmstadt on September 20, 1800 (* January 15, 1779, † April 18, 1811). She was the daughter of Ludwig I. The couple had the following children:

The Charlottenburg sculptor Hans Arnold created the monument to Prince Ludwig, which was ceremoniously unveiled on June 21, 1907 in Koethen.
