Hans Arnold (sculptor)
Hans Arnold ( also: Hans Arnoldt ; born October 2, 1860 in Wittenberg ; † March 30, 1913 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) was a German sculptor .
Life
Arnold was born in the House of the Golden Ball (Wilhelm Weber House at Schlossstrasse 10) in Wittenberg as the son of a businessman. From 1879 to 1881 he was a student of the Munich Art Academy and from 1881 of the Berlin Art Academy under Albert Wolff and Fritz Schaper . He stayed in Berlin and had been a member of the Berlin Artists' Association since 1894 .
Living and working in Berlin, he was accepted there in 1889 as a full member of the Berlin Artists' Association. The name of Anton von Werner and Schnorr-Alquist are on the diploma for admission in 1889 . In keeping with the times, he created monuments primarily for cities that wanted to honor emperors, kings and princes and demonstrated a high level of artistry.
The figure of Emperor Friedrich , created in 1889 , stood in front of the Wittenberg Castle Church until the Second World War . The monument to the Prussian King Friedrich II in Torgau (1912) should also be mentioned. Arnold provided the monument to Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch for the Märkisches Museum in Berlin and the Virchow bust for the Pathological-Anatomical Institute . His last works include the drafts of the monument for General Yorck von Wartenburg in Wartenburg on the Elbe in 1912/13 and the gold medal for Professor Otto Wille from 1913. He created a foundry and a blacksmith for a reception hall of an industrial plant, both of which are shown their main work tools.
Hans Arnold died in Charlottenburg at the end of March 1913 at the age of 52. He was buried in the Wilmersdorf cemetery . The grave has not been preserved.
