The Ludwigsturm on the Bad Kissinger Staffelsberg

The Ludwigsturm of Bad Kissingen is located on the Staffelsberg in the Bavarian spa town. The tower is named after King Ludwig I in memory of the Wittelsbach family. It belongs to the Bad Kissingen architectural monuments and is registered under the number D-6-72-114-21 in the Bavarian list of monuments .

history

The idea to build the tower goes back to the then mayor of Kissingen, Carl Fürst. The inauguration took place after two years of construction on August 29, 1883 by Fürst's successor, Mayor Theobald von Fuchs . An increase was planned in 1912, but it was not implemented.

From the beginning, the tower was popular as a lookout tower. This status has now been lost due to the tall trees around the tower. Today there is a training center of the Diocesan Association of Würzburg of the German Scouting Association Saint Georg right next to the tower .

The 25 m high Ludwigsturm has been in disrepair for several years and had to be closed to the public in 2008. In March 2012 the Bad Kissingen city council announced that there was no money available for a general renovation, which would cost 120,000 euros. A demolition of the tower is also out of the question, because on the one hand the necessary 40,000 euros are missing and on the other hand the tower is on the monument protection list.

architecture

The tower, made of sandstone, has a square base and is cuboid.

Broadcasting station

The Ludwigsturm is also used to broadcast Radio Primaton's radio program on 90.5 MHz with 100 W power.
