Lower Saxony air hygiene monitoring system
The Lower Saxony air hygiene monitoring system is a network of 25 measuring points for air pollutants in Lower Saxony .

20 measuring points are located in larger cities in Lower Saxony such as Hanover , Braunschweig and Göttingen , 5 measuring points in rural areas and ecosystems, such as on the Wurmberg in the Harz Mountains, on the East Frisian Islands and at the mouth of the Elbe .
In addition to meteorological data, measured values are collected for:
- particulate matter
- Nitrogen oxides
- ozone
- Sulfur dioxide (not at all measuring points)
- Carbon monoxide and benzene (only in metropolitan areas)
These measured values are measured automatically and sent to the monitoring network center. After the data has been processed, they are sent to the Federal Environment Agency and are available on the Internet.
The values are u. a. used for:
- the ozone warning service of Lower Saxony
- Monitoring of the values according to the EU air quality directives
- Monitoring of typical vehicle emissions
- Environmental monitoring
- Determination of the long-term development of emissions and the distribution of air pollutants
- Informing the public
