Luigi Borghi

Luigi Borghi (* around 1745 in Bologna , † around 1806 in London ) was an Italian violinist and pre-classical composer .

Life

Luigi Borghi was a student of Gaetano Pugnani . In 1774 he settled in London, where he first worked as a violinist in the opera orchestra on the recommendation of Felice Giardini . He later played regularly with Wilhelm Cramer in a quartet or other chamber music compositions at the “Professional Concerts” initiated by Cramer in London. Luigi Borghi was friends with Sir William Hamilton .

In addition to numerous chamber music, Borghi composed ballet music for the Italian Opera London . From 1790 Borghi was co-director of "O'Reilly's Operncompagnie". He married the prima donna Anna Casentini in February 1792. His compositions are kept in the gallant style and have been partly published in London, Paris and Berlin.
