Luis Tristán
Luis Tristán (also Luis Tristán de Escamilla , * around 1585 in Toledo ; † 1624 ibid) was a Spanish painter of the 17th century. His paintings hang a. a. in the Museo del Prado in Madrid and in the El Greco Museum in Toledo; two more are in the Louvre in Paris .
Luis Tristán was born in Toledo and was El Greco's assistant from 1603 to 1607 ; his later works testify to the influence of the master. During a trip to Italy he also picked up influences from Caravaggio's work . One of his main works is the high altar with numerous panels in the collegiate church of San Benito Abad in Yepes from 1616.
