Luis de Moscoso

Luis de Moscoso Alvarado (* 1505 in Badajoz , Spain , † 1551 in Peru ) was a Spanish conquistador .

Life

In Central America he accompanied his uncle Pedro de Alvarado in the conquest of what is now Mexico , Guatemala and El Salvador . In early 1530 he was commissioned by his uncle to lead an expedition to the east of El Salvador. On May 8, 1530, Luis de Moscoso founded the settlement of San Miguel de la Frontera , today's capital San Miguel of the department of the same name .

In Mexico he entered the service of the Viceroy of New Spain , Antonio de Mendoza . He accompanied Mendoza to Lima when the latter was appointed Viceroy of Peru . He arrived there on November 25, 1550 and began work. He died in the following year, 1551.

Posthumously

In 1997 a bridge, the Puente Luis de Moscoso , which crosses the Río Grande de San Miguel near San Miguel , was named after him ( map ).
