Wilhelmine Luise Christiane, Countess of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld

Wilhelmine Luise Christine von Sachsen-Meiningen (born August 6, 1752 in Frankfurt am Main , † June 3, 1805 in Kassel ) was a princess of Sachsen-Meiningen and, by marriage, Landgrave of Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld .

Life

Luise was a daughter of Duke Anton Ulrich von Sachsen-Meiningen (1687–1763) from his second marriage to Charlotte Amalie (1730–1801), daughter of Landgrave Karl I von Hessen-Philippsthal .

Luise married Landgrave Adolf von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (1743-1803) in Meiningen on October 18, 1781 . Already in her marriage contract, which her mother concluded with Landgrave Adolf as guardian of her brother Duke Karl von Sachsen-Meiningen , it was stipulated that the: “ future wife of our princes and princesses, as long as they are minors, solely guardianship and administration of ours princely children should have proper property ”.

After Luise had become a widow in 1803, she was able to obtain confirmation of her guardianship over her three sons at the Reich Chamber of Commerce upon presentation of the marriage contract.

progeny

Luise had the following children from her marriage:

  • Friedrich (1782–1783)
  • Karl (1784–1854), Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld
⚭ 1. 1816 Princess Auguste zu Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen (1793–1821)
⚭ 2. 1823 Princess Sophie of Bentheim and Steinfurt (1794–1873)
⚭ 1812 Princess Juliane of Denmark (1788–1850)
  • Georg (1787–1788)
  • Ernst Friedrich (1789–1850)
  • Charlotte (* / † 1794)

Works

The Hessian Music Archive in Marburg houses a large collection of music from the Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld house , with works mainly from the second half of the 18th century. Landgravine Wilhelmine Luise is also represented there with several small compositions:

  • I should drink the light source , song for soprano and harpsichord, E flat major, HA IV 187
  • Symphony for strings, flutes and horns, D major, HA IV 194
  • Minuet for harpsichord, F major, HA IV 306 - lost

It is interesting that most of the compositions contained in the collection, including copies of works by Johann Adolph Hasse , Johann Christian Bach and Joseph Haydn , are notated in very small casts, so that they must have been intended for the landgraves' musical practice at Wilhelmsburg Palace . The song I should drink the light source was performed again for the first time in 2015 as part of the Early Music Festival in Thuringia, Güldener Herbst , at the historic location in Barchfeld , along with other compositions from the Barchfeld music collection.
