Luiz Eduardo de Oliveira (born January 1, 1944 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian cartoonist and author who appears under the pseudonym Léo .

biography

The mechanical engineer left his home country during the military dictatorship and first went to Chile , where a coup d'état also took place in 1973 . Oliveira then moved to Argentina , but returned to Brazil in 1974.

Oliveira initially worked as an illustrator in the advertising industry in São Paulo . In 1981 he finally traveled to France to make comics there. Since the Franco-Belgian comic landscape was in a serious crisis at that time, he hired himself again in advertising. At the same time, he published several articles in the French magazines L'Écho des savanes (1982) and Pilote (1985).

From 1986 Léo worked for various youth magazines with the support of Jean-Claude Forest , editor-in-chief of the children's magazines at Bayard-Presse . In 1988 he created drawings for the French comic author Rodolphe for his stories. Their collaboration for the comic book publisher Dargaud culminated in a total of 13 comic albums: in eight albums by Trent and five editions by Kenya .

In 1993 Léo started his first solo series for Dargaud, for which he developed the scenario as well as the drawings: Aldebaran . The five-part fantasy / science fiction series was released by Dargaud in 1994. In Germany it was published at the end of April 2002 by Epsilon Verlag . The Aldebaran universe experienced a sequel in 2000 called Betelgeuze (originally Bételgeuse ) and in 2007 another latecomer: Antares .
