Luka Bloom (real name Kevin Barry Moore , born May 23, 1955 in Newbridge , County Kildare ) is an Irish singer, musician and songwriter.

Life

Luka Bloom is the younger brother of Christy Moore . He borrowed his stage name from the title Luka by Suzanne Vega and the surname of the main character Leopold Bloom from the novel Ulysses by James Joyce .

In 1969 his brother took him on tour for the first time, in 1978 the first of three albums was released under his real name, but after the last album of this phase he temporarily disappeared from the scene for a few years. In 1987 Bloom moved to the USA , where he performed regularly in two pubs and eventually settled in New York . Under his new artist name he was finally able to establish himself as a folk rock artist and in the following years released albums that are mainly characterized by his singing and his acoustic guitar. During his live recording in Amsterdam he can be heard completely unaccompanied. On the albums The Acoustic Motorbike and Keeper Of The Flame Bloom is accompanied by his brother on the bodhrán , the latter album consists exclusively of cover versions. He returned to Ireland in the mid-1990s.

Bloom often worked with other artists, including the Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor .
