In the following season the championship title was defended and won the double by a 2-1 win over Keflavík ÍF in the cup final.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career, Kostić led UMF Grindavík for the first time to Landsbankadeild in 1994. As the coach of the U-17 national team, he made it possible for an Icelandic national team to take part in an international tournament for the first time when the team qualified for the U-17 European Football Championship in Belgium in 2007 .
