Luke of Padua

Luke of Padua (* around 1200 in Padua , † February 17, 1285 in Padua) was a pupil of St. Francis of Assisi .

Life

Lukas Belludi was the son of a noble family and became a pupil of Francis of Assisi and Anthony of Padua around 1220 . Luke quickly gained a reputation as a miracle worker and was consulted by the population on many issues. He was a gifted preacher and gained notoriety beyond his sphere of activity. As Provincial of the Franciscans , Luke played a major role in the beautification of the St. Anthony's Basilica in Padua. A good hundred years after his death, a chapel was built for him in the Antonius Basilica. The cult of Luke of Padua has been kept alive through the centuries and was supported by Pope Pius XI. officially confirmed on May 18, 1927 .
