The Lukas church of evangelical Luke parish in Bonn district of Bonn-Castell was after the Second World War, built as a result of the influx of Protestant citizens. The town church on Kaiser-Karl-Ring 25 (corner of Nordstraße ) was placed under monument protection in 2007.

history

The first plans for a Protestant church building in the Bonn district were made in the mid-1930s. After the war, an increasing number of Protestant refugees and Protestant employees of the Federal Government moved to Bonn, which had been predominantly Catholic until then. Soon every fifth person in Bonn was Protestant. The need for Protestant churches and parishes grew. From 1950 on, Protestant church building activities began in various parts of the city.

In the district, named Bonn-Castell since 2003, a Protestant kindergarten was initially opened in 1956 under the direction of Waltraud Shell. The Lukas Church was built the following year together with the parish hall according to plans by Heinrich Otto Vogel . Another architect involved was Hans Thon from Bonn. The foundation stone was laid in 1957 and the inauguration took place on the fourth Sunday of Advent in 1958.

The church construction is typical of the church architecture of the 1950s / 60s. He refers to the Roman history of the district. The square hall church is executed in greywacke . The church windows in the choir show three 80 cm tall angels; it is an early work by Johannes Schreiter . The organ comes from Klais . The tower, which stands around 10 meters away from the church hall and is integrated into the adjacent church hall in the south, built on an irregular floor plan, is around 35 meters high. Adjacent to the parish hall is the building used as a day-care center and Protestant family center “Der kleine Lukas” along Nordstrasse. The evangelist Luke is the namesake of the church; at that time it was assumed that the evangelist was a doctor by profession, which points to a connection to the nearby Rheinische Kliniken .

The parish choir of the Lukaskirche appears under the name "Auerberger Kantorei". The church music director Thomas Neuhoff has been the leader of this well-known choir since 1983 .

Bells

The bell consists of three bronze bells that were cast in 1969 by the Mabilon bell foundry in Saarburg:

  1. Big bell, YOUR NAME WILL BE SANCTIFIED , 1,200 kg, chime d ′, it is rung at funerals, on Good Friday and on the Day of Repentance and Prayer and together with the other two bells on Sundays and feast days - also for services before the evening - and for weddings
  2. The middle bell, DEIN REICH KOMME , 690 kg, strike tone f ′, is rung individually for the Lord's Prayer and together with the small bell on weekdays and to ring the bell on Sundays and holidays
  3. Small bell, YOUR WILL DONE , 465 kg, strike tone g ′, only sounds together with the other bells.

The pre-chiming takes place 30 minutes, the chiming together 5 minutes before the start of the service. The ringing time is usually five minutes.
