course
The 15 miles long river rises as Connypot Beck on the southeast side of Little Fell east of Appleby-in-Westmoreland and north of Kirkby Stephen ; the officially defined source stream is one of the shorter of several rivulets. It turns northeast as Connypot Lumbs and then southeast about six kilometers from the source as Lune Head Beck .
Almost 12 km after the source, the Long Grain , which is almost 13 km longer, flows from the left , from here the water is called the River Lune . On the now 12.75 km to the mouth, the River Lune flows through two reservoirs, the Selset Reservoir and the Grassholme Reservoir .
At Mickleton's it flows into the teas from the right .
