The Lungwebungu , in Angola Lungué Bungo , is a river that rises in Angola on the plateau of the city of Chingamba in the province of Moxico , flows southeast and flows into the Zambezi at Lukulu in Zambia .
course
The Lungwebungu is the most powerful tributary of the Upper Zambezi. The river valley is about 645 kilometers long. In it meanders , the flow broad meaning so that the actual flow length is a multiple thereof, when the valley in the dry season is not flooded wide as in the rainy season.
Its mouth is in the Liuwa floodplains, which are extremely rich in animals .
Hydrometry
The flow rate of the catchment area of the river was measured in m³ / s.
transport
The river is navigable with medium-sized boats, in the rainy season via a tributary almost to Cangumbe on the Benguela Railway , in the dry season about 30 kilometers must be crossed on land. It has no waterfalls or rapids, which used to make it a transport route to the Upper Zambezi region, which is difficult to reach overland due to its sand. However, the civil war in Angola severed these trade links.
