Luria is a genus from the family of cowries (Cypraeidae).

features

All species have well-developed, very fine housing teeth and an almost opaque, black coat . Only the coat of L. cinerea differs somewhat, it is more translucent and paler in color. The typical sizes vary between 15 mm ( L. controversa, f. Atriceps ) and 56 mm ( L. pulchra ).

Occurrence

The species of this genus have spread worldwide. L. lurida is native to almost the entire western coast of Africa and the Mediterranean. L. cinerea also in the Atlantic, on the east coast of Central and South America. The distribution of L. isabella and L. controversa extends from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific. L. isabellamexicana is found on the western coasts of Mexico and Central America. L. tessellata off Hawai, Taiwan and the Philippines.

controversy

Whether L. controversa is its own species or just a subspecies is viewed differently from author to author. FA Schilder determines a valid species, Felix Lorenz lists controversa as a subspecies of L. isabella
