history
The Luther parish was founded as a Protestant parish for the Upper Town in November 1930 without its own church building. The services took place in different halls in the upper town. The project of its own church only got underway after the destruction of all three Protestant churches in Mainz.
The church was built in 1949 as the first church in Mainz after the Second World War . This was made possible by the emergency church program of the Evangelical Church in Germany and the active cooperation of the parishioners. The design by the architect Otto Bartning led to an impressive church building that blended harmoniously into the cityscape.
