Lwala is a village in Kenya in Homa Bay County with about 1500 inhabitants. It is approximately 30 kilometers north of Homa Bay and east of Lake Victoria . About 4,000 people live in the surrounding region.

Nyota day care center

Lwala is not connected to any public electricity or water supply. Trading takes place on marketplaces. There are six primary schools and two secondary schools . In addition, the Nyota orphan daycare center is located in the town, which is run by the German association of the same name from Mannheim .

In 2007 the Lwala Community Clinic opened , run by the non-profit organization Lwala Community Alliance , the story of which was recorded in the award-winning documentary Sons of Lwala .

The main economic factor is the cultivation and processing of sugar cane .
