Wetter-Alarm is a free weather app with a Switzerland-wide storm warning service. The application is provided by the cantonal building insurance companies and contains weather data from SRF Meteo . Weather alarm is operated throughout Switzerland as an instrument for natural hazard prevention.

Warning system

Weather alarm is a free service for all people who can be affected by storms, such as building owners, road users and recreational athletes. The timely information about current storms should help to avoid damage as much as possible.

The severe weather system comprises seven types of severe weather: thunderstorms and hail , heavy rain , winds and storms , snow , frost , black ice and floods . The risk of severe weather is classified according to a three-stage scale, in which the responsible meteorologist, in addition to predefined threshold values, includes the meteorological history and the season in his assessment of the situation.

Switzerland is divided into 172 different alarm regions. The grading is primarily based on the damage potential of the storm and not always on fixed threshold values.

Warning level 1 Warning level 2 Warning level 3
Severe weather intensity low medium strong
warning at slight risk of damage increased risk of damage Danger to life and limb
Number of warnings per year and region about 40 approx. 20 approx. 2-3

history
