Lycenchelys muraena is a fish from the eel mother family(Zoarcidae) thatlivesat the bottom of the Arctic Ocean and the adjacent Atlantic Ocean .

description

Lycenchelys muraena is elongated with a body narrowing towards the back and a flattened head. It has a yellow-brown color with a double side line , the lower one often being indistinct. Body lengths of up to 22.6 cm were registered.

The species can be found on the sea floor at a depth of 350 to 1,700 meters. It prefers muddy soils ( Dy ) at depths of 620 to 1,125 meters and water temperatures around freezing point. The food is made up of small crustaceans .

The distribution area stretches across the Arctic Ocean from the Kara Sea to northwestern Greenland and across the northern Atlantic from Spitsbergen to the Faroe Islands . The species has also been documented near mainland Norway .
