The brindled beauty or cherry tensioner ( Lycia hirtaria ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of the tensioner (Geometridae).
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 35 to 45 millimeters. The forewings of the black-feeler fat-body tensioner are colored gray and dusted black, with a curved inner and a curved outer transverse line delimiting the middle field. The hind wings are also gray and have two to three transverse lines. The males have large, dark, double-combed antennae, which can be used to distinguish the species of Apocheima hispidaria .
The caterpillars are red-brown or gray in color and have yellow-red markings.

distribution
The black probe fat belly spanner is a common butterfly and is found in the temperate zones of Europe and Asia. You can find it in forests, groves, gardens and parks.
Flight and caterpillar times
The moths fly in one generation from March to May and are attracted to light. The caterpillars can be found on the forage plants from May to August.
Way of life
The larvae live on various hardwoods such as birch , oak , alder , ash , elm etc. The species overwinters as a pupa (sometimes several times). The moths rest on branches or stone walls during the day.
