Jakob Farner

Jakob Farner (born March 5, 1918 ; † 1995 ) was a brass music conductor from the Swiss canton of Zurich .

He grew up in Zurich-Altstetten and from the age of 13 was a member of the boys' music of the Zurich-Altstetten music society - as a trumpet player. Two years later he also learned to play the flugelhorn . He completed an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker and later worked as a furniture salesman. In 1958 he took over the Frohsinn restaurant in Embrach as an innkeeper . 1934-36 he played in a country band Echo vom Sunneberg . 1939-42 he studied harmony and composition at the conservatory . At about the same time he played the piano and trumpet in the Ländlerkapelle Echo vom Uetliberg . In 1949 he became vice conductor and in 1952 director of the Altstetten Orchestra Association . Until 1998 he was the musical director of the Dorfspatzen Oberägeri . In 1990 he was awarded the Golden Treble Clef for his musical merits .
