Lycium oxycarpum is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

Lycium oxycarpum is an upright, heavily branched shrub that usually reaches heights of 0.9 to 3 m, and occasionally up to 5 m. The leaves are weakly succulent and hairless. They reach a length of 20 to 30 mm and a width of 3 to 8 mm.
The flowers are hermaphroditic and five-fold. The calyx is tubular to trumpet-shaped. The calyx tube reaches a length of 3 to 5 mm and is covered with 0.8 to 1 mm long calyx lobes. The crown is half-oval and spreading. It is dirty white to cream or greenish-cream in color, the lobes are purple, the veins purple. The corolla tube becomes 20 to 24 mm long, the corolla lobes are 2 to 3 mm long. The base of the stamens is sparsely hairy.
The fruit is a red or orange-red berry , which is usually elongated elliptical or, more rarely, egg-shaped. It becomes 5 to 6 mm long and 3 to 5 mm wide.
Occurrence
The species is widespread on the African continent and occurs there in South Africa in the provinces of the Eastern Cape , Western Cape and Northern Cape .
