Lyncina is a widespread and frequently occurring genus from the family of cowries (Cypraeidae). The distribution area extends from the east coast of Africa over almost the entire Indian Ocean to the South Sea ( Indo-Pacific ).
features
The outer shape is pear-shaped ( pyriform ), only Lyncina lynx deviates from it with its elongated body. The species of this genus all have the same characteristic expression of the mantle and the radula . The mantle is the shell that covers the housing and in this genus it has tree-like branched papillae, as otherwise only occurs in the genus Leporicypraea . The radula is a kind of tongue with which the animal ingests food and consists of several rows of "skin teeth". In all species of this genus, the middle “skin tooth” is dome-shaped.
