Lynda Pope

Lynda Pope (born Lynda Maddern , there is also the spelling Linda Maddern ; * April 19, 1953 ) is an Australian chess player . She started playing chess at the age of 13 at school in Kyneton , Victoria . She is married to the chess player Arthur Pope.

At the age of 18 she won the Victoria State Women's Individual Championship. In 1970 and 1971 she won the Australian Junior Championship for Girls. For the Australian women's national team, she took part in the 1972 Chess Olympiads in Skopje on the reserve board, in Haifa in 1976 on the third board and in 1978 in Buenos Aires on the top board. In 1978 she won the Australian Women's Individual Championship. In 1979 she was awarded the title of International Women's Champion (WIM).

Lynda Pope's highest and last Elo rating is 2040 (as of February 2020).
