Lynn Johnston

Lynn Johnston (born May 28, 1947 in Collingwood , Ontario ) is a Canadian cartoonist . She was the first Canadian and the first woman to receive the Reuben Award .

Lynn Ridgeway grew up in the province of British Columbia and attended the Vancouver School of Art in the hope of becoming an artist. After a brief stint in animation, she married in 1969 and moved back to Ontario. She worked as a medical illustrator for 5 years. During her pregnancy, she drew cartoons that were published in her first book in 1973. 2 years after their divorce, she married Rod Johnston . In 1978, when the Johnstons and their two children had settled in Manitoba , Universal Press Syndicate asked if she was interested in drawing comic strips. She sent in samples of work entitled The Johnstons , Comics Related to Events in Her Own Family, and was hired. From 1979, the Strip was in many newspapers in Canada, the US and many other countries For Better or For Worse (dt .: In good and in bad (times) ) presented. Johnston drew the strongly autobiographical strip for almost 30 years. During this period, the cartoon characters also aged, so the children in the comics grew up and eventually grew up and worked. The main plot of the strip ended on August 30, 2008. After that, old episodes began to be repeated in combination with newly drawn parts.
