Lysebotn
Lysebotn is a place at the end of the Lysefjord in the municipality of Sandnes in the Norwegian province of Rogaland . The place mainly consists of a power station, a ferry pier and some tourist facilities.
The power station, which used to be the region's main employer, caused a drastic population decline due to increasing automation and the associated loss of jobs. It was not until the nearby Kjerag was discovered for base jumping that tourism became a new economic pillar for Lysebotn.
Lysebotn can be reached by ferry across the fjord (only in the summer season) or via a mountain road from Sirdal . The place is also known for the serpentine road built in 1984 with 27 hairpin bends and a spiral tunnel that connects it with the high plateau to the south. 640 m above Lysebotn is the Øygardstølen road, a starting point for hikes to Kjerag.
As part of the Summer Biathlon -Wettkämpfe Blink festivals will Lysebotn Opp organized. It is an ascent race over 7.5 km on the serpentine road with roller skis in free technique .
