The Albegna is an approximately 70 km long river in the province of Grosseto in southern Tuscany , Italy . It crosses the province from north to south.
course
The river rises south of Monte Buceto and south-west of Monte Labbro south of Stribugliano (municipality of Arcidosso , 2 km in the municipality) at 1018 meters. First, it heads south (13 km in the municipality of Roccalbegna , where the Zolfereto and Calizzano join from the left, 7 km in the municipality of Semproniano , where it crosses the Strette dell'Albegna ) to Saturnia , which becomes the municipality of Manciano (a total of 26 km in the local area). It then flows to the southwest and serves the communities of Scansano (6 km) and Magliano in Toscana (8 km) as a south-eastern border (to Manciano). It spends its last 10 km in the municipality of Orbetello and finally flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea at Albinia (district of Orbetello) .
description
The path of the Albegna, still called Albinia by the Romans , mostly leads through agricultural areas. Due to the mud and debris that the river brought with it from the mountains, the headland of Orbetello was created near the mouth , which today connects the former island of Monte Argentario with the mainland. The watercourse, declared not as a torrente , but as a river, has some properties that apply to Torrenti. The river swells considerably in the rainy season, but in the summer months, at least on the upper reaches, it is almost non-existent. The floods in November 2012 claimed four lives, three of whom died when the Ponte sull'Albega bridge collapsed near Marsiliana , a district of Manciano.
