history

The place Roccalbegna and the castle Rocca Albegna was first documented in 812 and 1210 in the writings of Otto IV. As Castro Roche Albegne to take over Abbadia San Salvatore . The place became the property of the Aldobrandeschi family in 1216 and remained so until the end of the same century when it was conquered by the Republic of Siena . They expanded the city walls from 1293 to 1296. After the defeat of the Senese Republic in 1555 by the Republic of Florence , the town resisted under the rule of Siena, now in exile from Montalcino . After that, in 1559, after the Peace of Cateau-Cambrésis (like Siena) , the place fell to the Duchy of Tuscany . Francis I subordinated Roccalbegna to the Counts of Santa Fiora in 1575 , in 1646 the place went to the Counts Bichi (later Bichi-Ruspoli) through Ferdinando II de 'Medici . After the abolition of feudal rule in 1751, the community returned to the Duchy of Tuscany. In 1783 the place Rocchette di Fazio , Semproniano and Triana was allocated, in 1787 Cana was added as a district, it previously belonged to Cinigiano. With the territorial reform of January 29, 1963, Semproniano (with the district Rocchette di Fazio) became independent.
