The place is 471 m and has about 35 inhabitants. It is located on a hill in the Albegna valley, approx. 200 m west of the village, the river Albegna runs south from Roccalbegna . history

In the 13th century, the town's castle was one of the most important of the Aldobrandeschi from the Santa Fiora branch . The place was named after Fazio, a son of Ranuccio Cacciaconti and Ildebrandesca Aldobrandesca, who led the place in the late 13th and early 14th centuries. A document from April 29, 1291 by the notary Ranuccio di Giovanni Grasso in the State Archives of Siena describes that Fazio Caccaconti had acquired the place. In 1304 the town was besieged by Orvieto, destroying the castle, which was then rebuilt. After that the place was ruled by the family of the Baschi from Baschi , the Salimbeni from Siena and the Orsini . Under the Montorio, an agreement with Siena was signed as early as 1356, and in 1416 the town submitted completely to the government of Siena. This renewed the city fortifications with the architects Pietro di Manno and Biagio di Franceschino until 1437.

  • The Castello Aldobrandesco , the former castle and today's castle ruins in the town center, was built in the 12th century. Two of the gates still exist today, including the Porta del Castello . The castle was destroyed by Spanish troops under Charles V in 1536 and can only be viewed as a ruin since then.
  • The Pieve di Santa Cristina , Pieve in the diocese of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello , which is just below the castle ruins, was first mentioned in 1276 and abandoned in 1884. From 1346 it was under the monastery of Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio alle Tre Fontane in Rome and received the title of Pieve in 1532. It contains several fresco fragments from the 15th century ( Madonna col Bambino tra i Santi Fabiano e Sebastiano, San Benedetto e Santa Scolastica ).
  • The Chiesa di Santa Maria (also called Chiesa della Consolazione ) is a church from the 16th century in the town center. She received the title of parish church in 1884 from the Pieve Santa Cristiana. In the church there is the terracotta statue Assunta from the 15th century.
  • The Ospedale di San Tommaso (called in Ospedaletto di San Tomè and Palazzo dell'Ospedaletto ) in Via Orti in the town center is a former hospital from the 14th century. An inscription on the brickwork recalls the date April 27, 1330 and also shows a Croce di Malta and an image of San Tommaso. At the portal there is an Agnello Divino ( Agnus Dei ). The institution probably belonged to a group of the Knights Templar from Grosseto (dissolved in France as early as 1312) .
  • The Palazzo Pretorio , the former town hall, was built in the 13th century.
  • The Palazzo di Giustizia is a former palace of justice.
