Lyudmila Prokaschowa
Lyudmila Vyacheslavovna Prokaschowa ( Russian Людмила Вячеславовна Прокашёва, born January 23, 1969 in Pavlodar ) is a former Kazakh speed skater who competed for the Soviet Union until 1991 and for the Commonwealth of Independent States in 1992.
Career
At the 1990 World Cup, Prokaschowa competed for the Soviet Union and finished sixth in the four-way battle.
Two years later, in 1992 in Albertville , she took part in the team of the Commonwealth of Independent States for the first time in the Olympic Games. In four starts she achieved only one top position with fifth place over the 5000 meter distance. A fortnight after the Olympics, she finished fourth in the four-way world championship.
After a tenth place in the 1993 World Cup, the runner, who is now competing for Kazakhstan, came ninth in 1994. At the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer , she finished fourth over 3000 meters and sixth over 5000 meters. In 1995 she won the silver medal behind the German Gunda Niemann at the world championship in four-way combat in Tynset, Norway . In 1996 the first individual distance world championships were held in Hamar . Lyudmila Prokaschowa took sixth place over 1500 meters, over 3000 meters she won the bronze medal behind Gunda Niemann and Claudia Pechstein , relegating third German Anni Friesinger to fourth place by 0.26 seconds.
In 1997 Prokaschewa finished seventh in the all-around world championship. At the individual distance world championships in Warsaw she achieved fifth place over 3000 meters and over 5000 meters. In 1998 she finished seventh over 3000 meters at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano . Over 5000 meters she won the bronze medal behind Claudia Pechstein and Gunda Niemann. At the Individual Distance World Championships in Calgary, she finished fourth on both long distances. At the all-around world championship in 1998 Prokaschowa was sixth.
In the years after 1998, she usually placed tenth or behind at global championships, the only single-digit placement was sixth place over 5000 meters at the 2001 World Single Distance Championships . In December 2000, Prokaschowa took part in the 2001 Asian Championships in Harbin, where she won the 1500 meter and 3000 meter titles, and the silver medal over 5000 meters. At the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City , 16th place over 3000 meters was her best result.
Prokaschowa's best placings in the overall World Cup were fourth place on the long distances in 1993/94 and fourth place over 1500 meters in 1994/95. In 1990/91 she won the Soviet four-way championship, in 1999/2000 and 2000/01 she was the Kazakh four-way champion.
