Since 1981 there has been a partnership with the English school " Sevenoaks School " in Kent and a long-term partnership with the section européenne des "Lycée Cassini" in Clermont / France. Further partnerships were established in 2003 with the Dutch "College Reggesteyn" Hellendoorn , in 2004 with the Polish high school No.8 in Częstochowa (Czestochowa) and in 2005 with the Spanish "Colegio Arturo Soria" in Madrid. Furthermore, in 2008 a non-European partnership was concluded with the German School in Quito, Ecuador . There has also been an exchange with Traralgon College, Australia, for 11 years.

School without racism

On July 16, 2004, the Goethe-Gymnasium was awarded the " School without Racism - School with Courage " plaque from Aktion Courage . For this, at least 70 percent of all people who learn and teach in a school (students, teachers and technical staff) had to commit themselves with their signature to actively campaign against any form of discrimination at their school in the future , to intervene in conflicts and to have regular project days on the topic perform.

Projects

The social commitment of the students is also encouraged. For example, students of the basic course in Catholic religious studies supported the Ibbenbürener Tafel with a package campaign initiated by the Social Service of Catholic Women for Christmas 2008. In January 2009, a “ One World ” project will be carried out in 5th grade .

music

Music rooms

There are three music rooms, two smaller ones and one large one. The orchestra rehearsals are carried out on a large scale (see below)

orchestra

The school orchestra was founded as a symphony orchestra in 1981 by Heiner Vornhusen and currently consists of 50 members. It includes complete string and wind groups as well as percussion instruments. In the junior orchestra, which is divided into two parts for winds and strings, students in grades 5 to 8 are trained for use in the symphony orchestra. The orchestra rehearsals are held once a week. Oliver Battke is in charge.

The orchestra has already made concert tours abroad, for example to England in 1988, 1991, 1998 and 1999 and to Spain in 1983, 1989, 1994, 1995, 2001 and 2006.

From March 21st to April 1st, 2010, the Goethe Orchestra traveled to Spain again and gave concerts in Zaragoza, San Sebastian and Santander. In large concert halls, such as the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria in Santander , the musicians performed in front of hundreds of spectators. The orchestra's program included parts of the Carmen Suites by Georges Bizet , movements of the Lobgesangs (Symphony No. 2, Op. 52) by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , the Hungarian Rhapsody by David Popper with Paula Schieferecke as solo cellist and the Concerto Grosso No. 4 op. 3 by Georg Friedrich Handel .

Choir

The choir was established in 1982 and currently has around 100 members. It is divided into an advanced choir (5th – 7th grade) and a youth choir (8th – 12th grade). In addition, there are specializations in the gospel choir and chamber choir. Vocal training with voice training in individual and group lessons prepares the students for their performances. The choir has already performed on concert tours in England, France, Poland and the Czech Republic. For over ten years of appearances, the choir and its director at the time were rewarded by the Lublin mayor with the honorary citizen's medal. Ralf Junghöfer is in charge.

Music class

From the 2008/9 school year, a music class with a third hour of music lessons for singers and strings will be set up in the 5th grade for two school years, where loan instruments are provided and the string instruments can be learned from the beginning. Instruments learned so far can also be continued in the music class.

Operating experience

At the end of the introductory phase, schoolchildren find out what professional inclinations they have in a two-week internship. Most of the time, the students carry out this internship in companies in the local area. However, it is also possible to complete the internship abroad. During the internship, teachers are available as contact persons for the students and, if possible, drop by on site. The internship reports written by the students are evaluated and outstanding examples are archived in the school library for orientation for future interns.

Working group "Addiction prevention"

This parents' initiative aims to familiarize pupils and parents with the problem of addiction and the associated dangers.
