M&S Architects are a Viennese architecture firm. Her works include the building “Das Haus der Forschung” in Vienna and parts of the Vienna-Meidling cable works .

history

In 1984 Christian Mascha and Christian Seethaler founded Büro 6B together with Tomm Fichtner, Roland Köb and Gerhard Zwirchmayr. The projects “the houseboat”, “the gold hall” and “the transmitter”, which were unconventional for the time, brought the young office into the headlines. In 1995 the 6B office became Mascha und Seethaler and in 2016, when Deirdre Zipp joined the management team, it became M&S Architekten. The focus of the office includes hotels, commercial and residential buildings, as well as urban development projects. Over the years there have been several collaborations with architects such as Heinz Neumann or Andreas Gerner.

Works

  • In 2004 the House of Research was opened. By using the latest technologies, the House of Research achieved a high level of energy efficiency. Together with Heinz Neumann und Partner, the most energy-efficient building in the world was created with this project with a primary energy figure of 100 kWh / m².
  • The standard in 2005 dubbed the Vienna-Meidling cable factory “The Miracle of Vienna” . The project was awarded the Otto Wagner Urban Development Prize in 2004. M&S Architects planned parts A, D and E. Part A is located in the southern section of the area and offers uses such as a hotel with a seminar center, local supplier, bank and medical center in the new district. Part D is a terrace house with stacked and offset apartments. The residential building in Part E was designed as a year-round green meeting zone and with 66 residential units is the largest component.
  • After winning a competition, the Schönbrunn Forum was opened in Vienna in 2012. This is a mixture of several office and residential buildings.
  • After the company headquarters in Zettling was handed over to crane builder Prangl in 2013, the Vienna headquarters opened in 2017 in the 23rd district. M&S Architects received the “built 2018” award from the City of Vienna for the Vienna branch. The location in Zettling received a “Green Building” certification for the efficient use of energy and water.
  • The Star Inn Hotel Wien Hauptbahnhof was completed in 2014 . By focusing on environmentally friendly and sustainable building, the project was LEED Gold certified.
  • In 2017, the Diamond City Hotel was the first hotel in Tulln's old town to be completed within 12 months. The project was nominated by the architecture magazine AIT and the paint manufacturer Caparol for the architecture prize Farbe.Struktur.Oberfläche due to the glittering plastered facade with a rough broom stroke .

Works in progress

  • With the ERnteLAA project in Erlaa, M&S Architects are implementing an urban horticultural project on a grand scale for the first time in Europe : glass houses on the roofs, raised beds and fruit trees are to be built.

Awards

  • 1984 Prize of the Federal Ministry for Science and Research
  • 1988 Critics Award "Ten on ten" (USA)
  • In 1991 the architecture office 6B received the state award for commercial and industrial buildings for the Goldhalle in Vienna.
  • The architects' office won the Otto Wagner Urban Development Prize twice: in 2004 for the Kabelwerk Wien-Meidling project and in 1998 as a tribute to the BB matrix.
  • Between 2005 and 2017, the architectural office was awarded the “Schorsch” prize of the MA 19 for urban design in Vienna nine times.
