Màrius Calado i Colom
Màrius Josep Lluís Calado i Colom (born October 23, 1862 in Barcelona ; † August 24, 1926 ibid) was a Catalan pianist and music teacher. As a pianist he was a member of the Catalan Pianist School .
life and work
Calado first studied at the Liceu of Barcelona with Gabriel Balart and Joan Baptista Pujol . At the age of 17 he became a student of Georges Mathias at the Paris Conservatory , where he won the first piano prize in 1881.
He began his concert pianist career in the Parisian venues Salle Érard and Salle Pleyel . He then gave concerts all over Europe and especially in South America. In particular, his appearances in Barcelona and Madrid were particularly appreciated by music critics. Despite his great success as a concert pianist, from 1895 onwards, due to his intensive pedagogical interest, he shifted his main focus to teaching.
As a result of his training in Paris, he was considered an expert in the interpretation of French works. His style of presentation was characterized by great technical virtuosity and elegance.
