Már Guðmundsson

Már Guðmundsson (born June 21, 1954 ) is an Icelandic economist and current President of the Central Bank of Iceland ( Seðlabanki Íslands ).

Life

Már studied in England and holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Essex . He also studied economics and mathematics in Gothenburg . He received his master's degree in economics from Cambridge University . (M.Phil.)

Már Guðmundsson worked for the Central Bank of Iceland for twenty years, ten of which, from 1994 to 2004, as its chief economist ( aðalhagfræðingur ).

From 2004 to 2009 he worked at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) (English. Bank for International Settlements ) in Basle . There he was deputy head of the Monetary and Economic Department .

On June 29, 2009, Már Guðmundsson was announced as the successor to the Norwegian Svein Harald Øygard as President ( seðlabankastjóri ) of the Central Bank of Iceland . The Icelandic economist Arnór Sighvatsson (born 1956) has been appointed as his deputy ( aðstoðarseðlabankastjóri ) and chief economist. On August 20, 2009, Már took up his new post.
