The Märkisch-Posener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (MPE) was a private German railway company.

history

The company was founded in Guben an der Neisse in 1866 . It built a rail network 282 kilometers in length in the former Prussian provinces of Brandenburg and Posen . After three years of construction, two lines were opened on June 26, 1870.

From the provincial capital of Poznan , one of the routes led west via Opalenitza , Bentschen and Schwiebus to Frankfurt an der Oder (173 km). The largest route structure was the Oder Bridge near Frankfurt with a length of 444 meters. A southern branch began in Bentschen and crossed the Oder southwest of Züllichau and reached the town of Guben an der Neisse (99 km) via Crossen on its left bank . In addition, on December 10, 1881, there was only a small addition to the ten-kilometer branch line from Opalenitza to the district town of Grätz . There were several industrial establishments and, above all, breweries.

Although the main line served as a direct connection from Poznan to Berlin , the earnings of the railway remained below expectations. It was not difficult for her to meet the wishes of the Prussian State Railroad , which took over the management of MPE on May 1, 1882 and became full owner on January 1, 1883. The society then dissolved.
